This book is the result of seven years of PhD level study by Dr. Joy Fleming. Bruce C.E. Fleming took her excellent research and condensed it down into a clear, direct presentation in this book. Modern translations have relied a lot on the Septuagint translation of Genesis 2 and 3. Dr. Joy Fleming focused her studies on the ancient Hebrew and identified several grammatical and literary devices used to communicate thoughts and principles that get lost in our modern translations. I am grateful for the work presented in this book making it clear on what actually happened in the Garden of Eden. We have too much pollution in our modern translations and it makes it difficult to understand. This book clears things up!

Looking for truth? The integrity of the research based on the original Hebrew words and literary patterns uncover the truth of what God is saying to us in His Word. There’s no agenda here, but it’s not what most of us have been told. There is good news coming out of the Garden of Eden! It’s good news for women, and it’s good news for men and it’s great news for relationships! Choose curiosity, instead of criticism, and take a look. It’s actually an easy read and clear to understand. It could change your life! Because that’s what God’s Word does :)

Joy Elasky Fleming's book MAN AND WOMAN IN BIBLICAL UNITY - THEOLOGY FROM GENESIS 2-3 provides a fresh look at primeval history, at the beginning of mankind. In an easy to understand manner, she competently guides the reader through the text of Genesis 1 -3. She succeeds very well in exposing and refuting what has been read into the text about the relationship of men and women, rather than letting the text speak.
In May 2021 I wrote a text where I processed and passed on her thoughts: Eva (frauen-vergebt-uns.de) I have received some feedback, also from theologians, who said they had learned something new. And that is what makes this booklet so interesting. Especially when it comes to the words exchanged between God and Adam and Eve after the transgression, Joy Fleming highlights what I and many others have not seen before - also due to inaccurate translations. That Eve, despite her seduction, presents a much better picture - if one can put it that way - than Adam, is a new discovery that I hope many more will learn about.

Reba. 5.0 out of 5 stars God really does love women as much as He loves men!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 19, 2023
This book opened my eyes and changed my life! Learning what was really written in Hebrew and the accurate translations for the verses about the first humans in Genesis was SO FREEING and reassuring! God did NOT design women to be subordinate to men! If you're like me, you are willing to be in submission to your husband if you know that's what God wants, but when you find out that really MUTUAL submission is His plan, and Eve was a co-regent with Adam in the beginning, you realize that you've failed to be the wife God really wants you to be. As iron sharpens iron, a man becomes a better man when his wife is his equal partner, challenging and exhorting him when appropriate, instead of staying silent. I wish I had time to say more, but I will just add that I think EVERYONE needs to read this book and the next one, Beyond Eden.

If there is anything that I have learned from my 30 yrs of experience in studying the so called "hard verses" about women, it is that our English does a poor job of reflecting the difficulty in translation. Our English versions tend to twist the complex into something simple and the simple into something complex. This book talks about the simple meaning of the Hebrew words in the first 3 chapters of Genesis and explains how the text does not support most of our English translations or easy interpretations. It is real eye opener for those who may not have much knowledge about these issues. Even if you think you know what is meant by a "help meet," or realize that God didn't curse the Man or the Woman, you may be in for some surprises! These ideas will help you to understand why are English translations are too often based on previous misunderstanding and do not always reflect what God is saying.
This is one in a series that explains verses of this kind and I highly recommend it.
Donald T. Owsley 5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful, positive, paradigm shifting book!

The thing about Bruce's book and ministry is that it is a big and positive shift, a better paradigm on which to understand the rest of Christ's redemptive story in the Bible and on which to live life!
I highly recommend it and his other books.
Jaydee 5.0 out of 5 stars A genuine restoration of Biblical truth!

Many movements claim to bring restoration of lost truths. The Book of Eden doesn't present an extrabiblical "revelation." It doesn't exalt anyone as a special messenger or prophet. Dr. Fleming's work is a thorough analysis of what the Scriptures actually say. It's easy to understand yet deeply challenging as it skillfully debunks long held assumptions about the first man and woman.
